They could swing the Facebook group in a more positive direction...

Start Thinking Canal Conservation?

Or maybe the public and group membership might be leaning towards something more like this;

Stop the Canal Corporation  Criticism

One more reason why the STCC don't know what they are talking about regarding the embankment dams.  Clear cutting, as defined here, is NOT what is happening. No more trees are being planted, only grass. Clear cutting only occurs on forested land, and the trees are replaced within two seasons.  They actually need the cut to allow enough light for the saplings to grow.

Perhaps ms Agte needs to come up with another name, suggestions anyone? (Be nice now!)

Just happened upon this website while helping a friend define the term "clear cutting" which has been used over and over by MANY people, including NEWS reporters looking to somehow "horrify" this NYCC Embankment Repair Project even more. In fact a whole group formed on Facebook using this incorrect term for whats happening along the Erie Canal Trail.

Most people who understand the process of fixing Embankment Dams that are unsafe, call the removal of vegetation by its real name Embankment Remediation. Quite simply stated ANYTHING other than plain grass is NOT allowed on SAFE eathenaeum-based dams. After all, these Embankments are not natural, they are man-made as most of the Erie Canal is. And as most things man-made, there's a need for periodic repair. But for those who want to call it Clear-Cutting, go ahead.

Here's a nice bit of TRUTH about Clear-Cutting...

https://oregonforests.org/clearcutting

Too bad the public has once again rushed too quickly to judgement, supported a group like Stop the Clear Cut, and caused a much needed SAFETY project on the Erie Canal to be halted.  Tens of thousands of our family, friends, and neighbors are at risk living in the path of potential flooding from these unsafe Embankment Dams running through Brighton, Pittsford, Perinton,  & Fairport.

Wake up people!
