Of course this isn't hard to understand... having the "new" Power Company collect "Opt-Out" information, and think they would actually submit that list removing potential customers would somehow ever work. No incentive at all to do it.

Brockport Residents were ALL, yes 100% of US, were automatically moved to a NEW electricity supplier, and also moved to support the NEW Brockport Village Solar endeavor. The Mayor of the Village of Brockport, Margay Blackman, felt it was "best" to Opt-In all residents, instead of giving them each the choice to support these programs that the Village Government obviously wanted to have happen.

So now an apology letter was issued, of course after many residents spent HOURS on the phone to National Grid the past two days, trying once again to OPT-OUT of this higher priced electrical solution. Many of us have now placed a BLOCK on energy supplier, with National Grid, so that this type of thing doesn't happen again.. accidentally on purpose.

Of course it was very easy for the Mayor to pin this on the "new supplier" who is Joule Community Power.

But actually this whole issue is caused by a Mayor, who has let her position as Brockport Czar win the day for the Village. We should never have been Opted In without consent, and ALL of this could have been avoided...

Brockport Residents should have been given the CHOICE to support Village plans for a new supplier, not automatically signed up, just so the Mayor could work on a better rate for the Village. 100% "buy in" brought that perk about with this new CCA.

Folks, don't blame the new supplier Joule for this one, It's 100% the Mayors fault, and everyone who did not want to join the plan can let her know by SUPPORTING the DISSOLUTION of Brockport Village with a Vote of No Confidence in the Mayor.

Thank you for explaining this with actual National Grid monthly costs for the past year. That helps to see that this change may not be best for all Village residents in Brockport.

Certainly this switch in power provider must have a benefit to the Village electricity cost & expenses.

What else would explain why the Mayor chose to raise the rates of 8000+ residents?

Opting OUT seems like it's not only a way to save costs on your electric bill, AND keep National Grid as your supplier.

It might also be the best way to tell Brockport's Mayor that you aren't happy with the choice she made for you, when she opted you IN, to a new plan that maybe only benefits her, her government position and her standing with other NY Mayors.

Quite a bit of discussion about this change in Brockport Social Media circles, that from the better half.

Here's the best way to view this change.. with the NUMBERS, which will come later...and the FACTS.

FACT: The Mayor of Brockport stated in her letter, that she could not guarantee savings will be seen if you switch to the NEW provider, but then went on to tell you that you were being moved, in lot, away from National Grid to the new Finger Lakes conglomeration.

FACT: The affected part of your bill is called SUPPLY Service, and that is Usage X cost/kwh. You will STILL be paying National Grid for the DELIVERY service portion of your bill, which uses their cost kWh.

FACT: In all but one month, of the last 12 months, National Grid had a LOWER kWh cost than EITHER of the two options being presented to Brockport Village Taxpayers & Residents

Here's how to look at your bill and get an idea of you own cost..

So now the NUMBERS, that's where the proof is. And what you are looking at, in the Table below, are cost for the past 12 months at National Grid. the current provider of electricity to most if not all Brockport Village residents. These were taken from a typical residential property in the Village. Costs that are at or below the estimate given by the Mayor are marked in green, anything above is yellow-orange.

So far this past June is the only month that was near or higher than the "new provider" that most of the village will be getting starting in September.

Note the Full Solar Option Increase %, that has been highlighted in YELLOW. That is how much HIGHER this new power company is compared to National Grid, for a per kilowatt hour cost (kWh).

So fact checking the Mayor of Brockport, yes, she is probably right. If you don't OPT OUT now, using the forms provided or the online website provided by Finger Lakes Community Choice, you WILL be PAYING MORE!

And remember, this is what your Village Tax dollars are paying for, their "right" to chose for you.

FYI: The Electricity Rate Comparison Chart was on the BACK of the form letter sent out to all Brockport Village Residents... I have added it here:

And for those who have wondered about why NYPA was chosen to help fix the Erie Canal Embankment Issues, it's always been about safety...well maybe more like "safety & power".

As in SAFE, clean, green electricity for NYS.

With the recent activity in Brockport with the Village residents "electrical supply" choices & costs, the one that might raise your kWh rates by as much as 50% with a new CCA, it didn't take long for me to find the connection back to NYPA in all this new electricity talk.

Remember, NYPA now owns the NYS Canal System, and that means they ALSO have the "ear" of every small village Mayor along it.

And read this report from downstate, where some CCAs were offered 38% discounts on cost. The issue with the Finger Lakes group has to be the 10% discount but the offset of ALL higher rates than what the village residents pay currently

For those Village residents living in Brockport, Honeoye Falls and Lima the answer is YES!  And that goes for the Entire TOWN of GENEVA!

Your "local" government has decided YOU can pay higher rates for electrical supply... just because they wanted to.

Now I'm sure there is a "cost benefit" for the local village government somewhere in all of this, they don't talk about what the "new village rates" will cost taxpayers. But you can rest assured that this is just another way for small, local government to "pick your pocket" again, for the benefit of the Village, maybe not the residents, but the village.

And remember.. YOU VOTED THEM IN to office, and even though the NYS Laws says Villages should be dissolving or folding into their Towns if possible.

This Electrical Power Supply change is part of a new  initiative, by a group that has been doing this type of thing in New York State for awhile...this new company groups a few thousand residents together, raise their rates for electrical supply, then sell of their "new company of residents" to the highest bidder it seems... take a look at the history of Joule Inc. They have done this before.

For most village residents, the new Electricity Program, for these named Villages and Towns, is called Finger Lakes Community Choice, and the new "supplier" for electricity will be Constellation NewEnergy Inc.

And EVERYONE'S has been "Opted-IN" by their local Village Mayors/Government, or Town of Geneva Supervisor/Government.

And EVERYONE who pays an Electric Bill in those locations WILL SEE AN INCREASE IN THEIR ELECTRICAL RATES paid per kWh.

AND if you don't Opt-Out NOW, all of this will happen as of September 1, 2021. I believe the Town of Geneva has already made the switch.

You can read more about it here:

https://www.fingerlakescommunitychoice.com/

So we received this letter, being in Brockport.

And it contained this OPT-OUT Card.

And the sad part, most people in the Village of Brockport simply toss these "Official Business" notices away.

Most of the Village here has become indifferent to how poorly the local government works here, and there's little to NO confidence in the Mayor or the Village Leaders, after the pitiful voter results from this past election cycle.

Surely the local Village Government is banking on that little fact, that most of this mail gets "tossed", to try and get 100% participation come September.

On the Back of the Community Choice Letter, there is a RATE CHART for electricity costs, and that is what peaked my interest. The "plan" says that you will get a 10% credit on your monthly electricity bill, with this new program and supplier. And remember, EVERY RESIDENT, who pays an Electric Bill to National Grid NOW, was automatically opted in to the new supplier, and the new solar offering.

What they don't tell you, IN PLAIN ENGLISH, is that your 10% savings is a "phantom benefit" that you will never see... because the rates per kilowatt hour have all increased much more than that 10%. The chart below, rounded up or down by $.001, shows CLEARLY that there is a 25% increase for the new supplier, and another 25% increase in kWh rate for the Solar Support Option.

If you live in these Villages: Brockport, Lima, or Honeoye Falls DO NOT throw this letter away, it has your Pre-Enrollment ID on it, that allows you to Opt-Out online using the website below... which hopefully MANY will do after reading this post.

https://secure.fingerlakescommunitychoice.com/

Stand up for your rights, do NOT let your local Mayors dictate how "poor" you become, paying taxes for village payrolls, benefits and retirement AND now selecting HOW MUCH you pay for electricity. Opt-out, of this plan until they release information on who benefits more... The Village or It's Residents.

You can take the Quiz, to see if you will be automatically enrolled, it's based on current status of your Power Company Account, and if you get assistance with your utilities (HEAP).

https://jouleassets.outgrow.us/FLCC

Of course they DO try to make you feel better about paying 50% more for the same electricity, with these new rates.

Once you take the quiz and see you will be INCLUDED in rate hikes, they give you  a little "sunshine heart" sign that is supposed to make you feel good inside about having your pocket picked by Mayors with their own agendas...

Don't believe them... it will cost you dearly.
