I see the comment for Mr. Hackett is gone now, hopefully he took a look before removing it.

Seems like the members of this group won't accept anything that doesn't come from Agte or Maier so most likely the truth will be denied once again.

After all, this Facebook group has ignored truth and fact since it started, and now is using old photos fron past winters to highlight the "devastation" that no longer exists on embankments  that have been fully restored now

Not sure anything said will change the minds of people, who are intent on NOT believing the truth, about Erie Canal Embankment safety.

But we can try I guess,

Oh! Well?  Yes, Mr Hackett, it's pretty simple really. Like a lot of people, many members of the STCC Facebook page, have begun to realise that the message put out by them is false and based on many untruths.  As an example, the testimony offered in court to obtain the SEQR report was 'fudged' by omitting to tell Professor Donald Gray that the trees on 'wooded slopes' were actually on an Earthen Embankment Dam, subject to hydrostatic pressure.
see https://eriecanalfacts.wordpress.com/2018/04/19/testimony-in-question-vegetation-on-dams/
Dr Gray stated - I don’t know of any earth dams where woody vegetation was purposely planted or allowed to grow on a face of the dam. But the STCC, and Pittsford Town Supervisor Bill Smith, conveniently forget to tell you that.

These, plus the Rizzo reports https://eriecanalfacts.wordpress.com/2018/04/15/rizzo-report-on-state-of-dam/  and the new Earthen Embankment Integrity Program (A result of the SEQR report) and the overwhelming evidence provided by the NYPA, have now swayed people away from 'protecting trees' to protecting people.

We hear very little complaining from those folks living under the threat of flood by a breach, and it's worth mentioning that all of the leaders of the STCC live well above any potential flood zone.

As for the Town of Perinton and the NYPA, it looks like they have given up communicating with the STCC. It's now a Fait Accompli and the process forward has been made abundantly clear in the EEIP.

Anyone arguing against this is railing against public safety!

Mr Flinn Hackett of Pittsford is a cyclist who uses the canal towpath.

Here are a couple of his recent statements on Facebook.  Look for Flinn Hackett

Mr Hackett states, " Claims by the NYPA that trees & vegetation along the canal must be clear cut as a matter of safety appear to be unsubstantiated, ill informed and wrong at best."

It is obvious that Mr Hackett has not read the numerous documents and engineers reports readily available, so I have forwarded him this link - www.eriecanalfacts.wordpress.com

I have also offered to walk him along the embankment at Fairport and actually show him the dilapidated and extremely dangerous condition of this earthen embankment dam.

Hopefully, he will take me up on the offer.

My message on Facebook to Mr Hackett

Mr Hackett

I saw your posts on the STCC Facebook web page and would like to comment on them.
Firstly, none of the folks at the STCC are engineers, or have any experience in hydrology and canal maintenance.
To say there is no evidence that the vegetation is dangerous is simply false. FEMA, NYDEC, Army Corps of Engineers, ASDSO and many other all say that there should be no vegetation on an earthen embankment dam.
I think you reside at 19 Sand Brook Rd, Pittsford and it would appear you're not in a flood hazard zone, but the people on the other side of the canal are, and it is they who everyone should be concerned about.
This dam is rated by RIZZO Engineering as a class C HIGH HAZARD DAM, with the recommendation that all vegetation should be removed and replace by grass.
Here is a link to many facts that the STCC will not tell you.

I would further like to show you exactly why these dams are so dangerous, so if you'd like to meet me some time at the Fairport Bowling Alley, we'll take a 5 minute stroll along the canal and you can see for yourself what a dilapidated state these embankments are in.  my email address is *****well@*******

I hope you can spare me a half an hour. You will be shocked, I'm sure!
