There is a link to a DEC video in this reply that pertains to Dam Inspectors within the DEC organization and how important their jobs are. For those who may not know it the NY Canal Corporation is working closely with the Dept of Environmental Conservation on this project.

Most importantly the DEC has AGREED with the Canal Corporation that these slopes, falling under the Remediation Project, are indeed Embankment Dams by definition, even though there are currently not listed on the NYS Registry of Dams. The omission of these Embankment Dams (that help make up 122 miles of Erie Canal) from the list of NY State Dams will most likely be corrected as this project progresses over the next few years as each one of these Embankment Dams is "uncovered" and made safe once again.

Some within the public domain who have taken an interest in this project are STILL incorrectly terming these Embankment Dams as "hills, slopes & levees" which only serves to add to the confusion on this project. Nothing could be further from the truth. Don't be fooled... it's a matter of public safety.
