With over 100 mechanical failures & Canal section closures this season, umpteen safety inspections on locks & bridges, and a major embankment breach in the Macedon/Palmyra Lock area, this announcement is a sigh of relief for the NYS Canal Corporation. There was a vessel grounded (sunk to bottom) that had to be rescued as well, along with several channel debris issues (trees) that had to be removed.

Dewatering is next step for the Erie, then the start of Earthen Embankment Integrity Program vegetation removal, to clear away their structural safety issues on raised earth impoundments along the canal system.

Finally, Canal Neighbors will see safety restored to earthen embankments that run adjacent to their properties.
