A real "DANGER" to Erie Canal Neighbors in Perinton...and it's not woodchucks.

If you live in the Town of Perinton, or the Village of Fairport, or anywhere else the Stop the Canal Clear-cut group (STCC) has left its indelible blight on Erie Canal neighborhoods, you may want to read on. If you happen to be a supporter of this STCC Facebook group, you should be ashamed of the behavior of its Leadership, and probably do not want to read on… it won’t be pretty.

Once again the Stop the Canal Clear-cut  (STCC) Leadership & Group, faced with zero scientific support for their wild beliefs, has decided to just start making things up to talk about regarding Canal Embankments, their Safety, and what is going on along the Canal these days. The posting below found its way to the STCC Facebook Page in the past few weeks. It starts right out saying it is all “hearsay” but that doesn’t stop this group from seizing the moment to simply keep extending the lies it tells itself.

Somebody who's embankments have been cleared, says they might have seen some traps, maybe a white van, mentions woodchucks…with no actual proof, and this Mr. Neale says the STCC should take a look into this... asking for information.

So what does the Founder of the STCC Group do? Well just take a look… again. No one has said ANY of this is truth so far… and look what the Stop the Canal Clear-cut does with this sort of “fake news”... they blow it up to try and garner "public support" against a Public Safety Project, which is exactly what clearing Embankment Dams is folks... don't kid yourself or be fooled by these STCC Fools.

So this conversation started with supposedly the Canal Corporation “trapping woodchucks” but Ms. Agte somehow wants to turn that into “Killing & Poisoning Rabbits & Cats” along the Erie Canal. She even tries to insinuate the Canal Corporation is spraying Roundup weed killer making people’s dogs sick as well, all based on a “comment” by another STCC believer, Mr. Oakes, who she “thinks” said something about the weed killer. No facts, no shred of real evidence.. they just make up one fairy tale and then build from there.

Pretty far out on a limb even for someone who hugs trees.

The ECNA can only reply with one sentence…Are you kidding me?

How anyone in their right mind could made those HUGE leaps… from trapping rodents to killing & poisoning animals, from woodchucks to cats & dogs… why it boggles the mind. Folks, it goes way beyond what most would consider “normal” behavior. And this is the STCC Leader & Group that the Town of Brighton is “giving an ear to” as well as the Town of Pittsford & Perinton. This is someone who says they have the “best interest” of the community in mind yet can’t seem to grasp what the “real problems are” but somehow now feels "entitled" to talk about them.

Woodchuck burrows on Barge Canal Embankments ARE a very REAL safety threat and Ms. Agte and her group of followers have been told by the Canal Corporation that these rodents were a serious safety risk along earthen embankment dams... which line the trail side of the Canal and are supporting large portions of the canal through the Town of Perinton as the canal moves over all of it's subtle valleys.

The Canal Corporation even made a video explaining the Canal embankment issue for Perinton & Ms. Agte and Friends.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5wXVUZq690&t=37s

So what did Ms. Agte do with this information? How did she accept the fact that there was a Safety Issue on the Erie Canal?

Well she decided that explanation by the Canal Corporation was all a bunch of lies and formed The Stop the Canal Clear-cut Group (STCC) on Facebook to fight the very project that was trying to fix the Canal’s overgrown & uninspected embankments. Because of her groups misguided efforts, three eastern Monroe County towns were removed from the initial embankment clearing project and moved to the statewide Embankment Rehabilitation Program that won't start clearing Pittsford, Brighton, and Perinton until late 2019 into 2020.

And now Ms. Agte appears “worried” about the possibility of a burrow-based Embankment Breach along the Erie Canal. After all, Woodchucks & other animals that burrow in the Canal Dams have a long history of starting large leaks that sometime do become large floods. One happened 120 years ago right at the Oxbow Lake, a big one… would have stretched from the Rowing Club to the Power Lines.

So some friendly advice from the ECNA for Perinton resident, be careful of groups that say they are helping the environment with their activity then refuse to take responsibility for their actions when it’s proven they never had the public's safety in mind at all.

Ms. Agte… the reason those woodchuck burrows you saw were not marked is very simple:

You, Ginny Maier, and Janice Gouldthorpe stood in the way of the Canal Embankment Clearing that was slated for 2017-2018 in the Pittsford, Brighton, & Perinton area. Now the Canal Corporation workers, who INSPECT for those embankment conditions, can’t effectively do their jobs with 80 year overgrowth on the Embankment Dams in their way, vegetation that YOU said didn’t need to be cleared. And so you should contact the Canal Corporation immediately and report them, don't just whine about it being "someone else's responsibility", take some initiative yourself.

And Ms. Agte, those woodchuck burrow holes… well just wait until people come from far away to see the new “Perinton Geysers” spraying canal water all over the place, why you can tell all those people about the STCC and how they made this all possible...That is right up until the embankment dam breaks open...

Remember that sometimes you have to take the bad with the good, you have unsafe, overgrown embankment dams... just like you asked for.

IN CLOSING...
Finally, your dog on “voice command” is funny… just like your idea of “killing a woodchuck once won’t get rid of them”. Yes that woodchuck will be dead maam… there will be no woodchuck zombie apocalypse. Just so you and your friends are aware of the “rules”, the Canal  Corporation would prefer you keep your dog ON that lease, so that everyone can enjoy the Canal Trail… if that's ok with the STCC.

Please read this about pets on the Erie Canal Trail.

Of course… I almost forgot, the STCC doesn’t like the current rules around embankment dams, they’d much rather write new ones they say, ones that allow large vegetation on earthen dams, so they probably won’t care much about a Pet Lease Preference.

After all… to the STCC - Rules are made to be ignored

It seems there are a few "sane" people in Fairport still... the masses are gathering to fight the STCC Rhetoric.

Nextdoor Fairport residents take their SAFETY seriously... even if the STCC doesn't

Well the Woodchuck White Truck Riddle has been solved... try saying that three times.

If you haven't been up to date the folks in Perinton are up in arms over some reported woodchuck burrows along the Erie Canal Dams in town. Seems they were seen by a member of the Stop the Canal ClearCut group (STCC) on a walk along the Dam.

News Flash...  Brockport! Some other STCC folks saw a mysterious "white van" on the Erie Canal where the STCC has stopped nothing from happening. The word was it was... WOODCHUCK HUNTERS!!!!

Well it seems the STCC jumped the gun so to speak... the white van isn't what they said it was after all. And here the ECNA was looking to break that story wide open.

So this is Ravi Engineering van, that company does the planning, and controls execution of the work for the Canal Corporation on their Embankment Rehabilitation Program... they are hired Engineering Consultants and Project Managers... not woodchuck trappers.

Well hopefully this puts the whole matter to rest... well slows it down a bit... until the STCC makes up yet another "Erie Canal Fairy Tale"
