The Rochester Beacon has published an article of mine in response to a group who are interfering with the safety of many Perinton residents.
You can read the article here.     https://rochesterbeacon.com/2019/07/02/trees-on-dams-are-a-high-risk-danger/

The Boy Scouts of America also published this -https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/safety-moments/hazard-trees/

And linked within it, there are several very good articles.  -

Mike brought up a number that should turn people's heads in Fairport & Perinton... but maybe a picture says more.

Here's a google map image where the TWO flood gates are that might control a canal breach in this area.. they are 11 miles apart. If the canal started leaking, and water made that leak bigger and bigger as the Canal Corporation has stated in their Dam safety project meetings, then the total amount of water could exceed 500 million gallons of water released on unsuspecting neighborhoods. There is nothing to stop that water from running downhill to Crystal Springs, the breach hole will eventually grow to be 12' tall and 120' wide or more.

It will be  much worse than the Bushnell's Basin flood which had only a few miles between flood gates

You folks in Perinton & Fairport simply can't ignore this safety issue or think it "won't happen" because the Stop the Canal Clearcut group says so. None of them are in any danger at all from this type of flood, they don't understand the issues, and they refuse to believe they are wrong on safety... in spite of the overwhelming evidence proving their view wrong.

Wake up Fairport.. wake up Pittsford...Brighton...Perinton. You all look like fools following this group who's only adding to the safety problems with their ignorance.

Mike,

Your favorite admirers have taken notice of your Rochester Beacon Article... seems Brockport Canal Welcome Center has posted a link on their website.

If folks didn't know... Brockport is a Heritage Award recipient from the Erie Canal National Heritage Corridor folks. If they are posting this then they know which side is speaking truth, and which side is supported by the ECNHC.

Seems like there are a few other towns in the Rochester area that can learn a little from Brockport, but I may be partial..LOL
