Well, a HUGE indicator might be when that Facebook group listens & accepts the musings of a disgraced & defeated, ex-Mayor, of a quaint Erie Canal Village like Pittsford, that believes Canal Embankment Safety is something that can be ignored, at the peril of the residents in the surrounding area.

This group continues to listen to Mr. Corby, who seems to only be there to "stir the pot" as they say... offering nothing positive, and appears to be helping the group spread it's disinformation.

It also appears that the group's co-founders are not that particular about the "credentials" of politicians they try to court, as long as those people agree to the biased view the group and it's leaders take of the New York Canal Corporation and parent firm, NYPA.

I guess we know that both, Mr. Corby & Ms. PJ B Kay, must not think too highly of Brockport Mayor, Margay Blackman.

After all Mayor Blackman DID listen to her village residents, who asked that she work WITH the NYS Canal Corporation and insure that Canal Neighbors get treated fairly. And she helped to insure that a natural screening barrier was put into place along the Erie Trail in Brockport, to replace the trees removed that offered trail neighbors their privacy.

All this while ex-Mayor Corby felt bringing a lawsuit against New York State, to stop Erie Canal public safety work, was in the "best" interest of both the village and his constituents.

But what did you mean by disgraced and defeated you may be asking?

Well that's fairly common knowledge around canal communities, but perhaps people have forgotten about the "accidental email message" sent by Mr. Corby, on his "defective phone" that he tried to pawn off as some excuse about his actions as Mayor.

All I can say is this... I'm sure that Mayor Corby's phone didn't type that insulting message itself... right?

Another case of someone simply trying to lay blame on the "equipment" and not the "operator" using that phone

Yep, it's something to see isn't it... what a crock! Mr. Corby should know better, but it's obvious he's as lost in the weeds as the rest of this group. Another case of "can't see the forest for the trees".

How about when the group's LEADER is "speechless" when  told that she has spread "false information"?

Or one Facebook group members reminds everyone else that they are "about as smart as a 6th grader"?

But on the bright side... the New York State Canal Corporation & Ms. Rebecca Hughes really got off easily with the comment made by Pittsford's ex-Mayor, who could have called them all "fecal maggots".

Finally the TRUTH has been spoken to Stop the Canal Clear-cut "management", it's been a long time coming...

And the response from those leaders is what would be expected... "NO COMMENT!"

And here's another thought...

Is anyone else wondering why an OFFICIAL letter to the LEADER of this Facebook Group, sent out during normal workday business hours, wasn't posted to their Facebook page until 11pm at night?

It's not like it would have taken Ms. Agte six hours to craft her "no comment" remark.

Unless she couldn't type with all those tears that must have flowed, after being told she was wrong and her information was "false".

Equally mysterious, Ex-Mayor Corby actually answered it immediately...with his "blah blah blah" remark, very strange indeed?

Maybe it's when your members just pipe in to your Facebook Post without reading or understanding the content?

I guess some people have NO CLUE about how much "words matter". Today, on their discussion page, a letter from Ms. REBECCA Hughes to Ms. Agte has been chalked up as "mansplaining" by yet another group member, a Ms. Julia Deal.

She wins today's Best Gormless Comment Award...good deal huh?

It never ceases to amaze us that there are so many "mindless followers" assembled in one single Facebook group. They can't seem to read, and they fail to understand the fact when they are told to them it appears.

Or maybe some of them just assume that anything that is said to their leader, that they don't agree with, must have come from "a man".

Perhaps it's time for a "reboot" of the group?

Maybe a name change for the group itself is in order, since they don't seem to really care about "clear-cutting" anymore, and now confine their comments to cheap insults, and incessant whining about "fairness".

Maybe it's when your members stop trying to understand the REAL public safety issues with Canal Embankments, and start writing song parodies to "show how they really feel"?

While the song lyrics were somewhat humorous, it also shows how this group's leadership still can't seem to supply their membership with the information needed to understand the inherent public safety issues around unmanaged, unmaintained earthen canal dams. They simply push their "theory" that all trees, anywhere they grow, are good. They don't use the word "safety" because that would mean they have to use the word "dam" as well.

But honestly, at least this member, Ms. Marilyn Moseley Woelk, admits that she is not really informed about the whole Canal Embankment Maintenance issue. And she ends her Facebook comment with the words "Change my Mind".

Of course she went to the wrong source to find the "truth" about Canal Embankment safety, but that can be corrected...here and now!

OK Marilyn, the ECNA will answer your questions, based on FACTS, not a valued opinion or "guess" like you get from the group you are in.

Yes Marilyn, the entire Canal System is in serious trouble, and needs repairs along more than 100 miles of high-hazard earthen dams they built 100 years ago to improve navigation, when the new Erie Barge Canal was built. You can read about that here:

https://www.nyscanalintegrity.org/

Yes Marilyn, the Canal Corporation has been CRYSTAL CLEAR about how much vegetation will be removed, and spelled it out with the NY State Required Environmental Impact study, that they released some time ago. They will remove ALL vegetation that is making the earthen navigation dams unsafe, or not allow proper Dam Inspections to take place, because we are talking about high-hazard earth dams.

You can read that document here:

https://www.canals.ny.gov/Earthen_Embankment/DGEIS/2021-03-09_DRAFT_FINAL_Embankment_Maintenance_Guidebook.pdf

Yes Marilyn, Public input was collected for this embankment work. The NYS Canal Corporation actually held 4 virtual meetings during the Covid Epidemic and also several public outreach meetings on the Canal Integrity work before that. They solicited input from the public, and also explained the nuts and bolts of earthen dam maintenance & management.

The Facebook group you are part of, decided it was best to protest at those sessions, and hurls insults at those who led it, wearing yellow shirts.

You can see the information about that here:
https://www.canals.ny.gov/news/pressrel/2021/2021.08.30_CANALS_EEIP_Extended_Public_Comment_Period_Release.pdf

And THANK YOU again for admitting that you didn't attend any of the meetings, seems the extent of your concern for public safety, along the Erie Canal system, only extends to Facebook postings, and catchy song lyrics.

And a QUESTION for you Marilyn, since when did a NYS Property Owner, have to ask "permission" to work on their own property? Do you really believe they need the permission of this Facebook Group to repair public safety concerns around their Embankment Dams?

The NYS DEC doesn't require that, nor do any Federal agencies or laws. And the Canal Corporation and parent company, New York Power Authority, are NOT asking for "forgiveness" as you state. It's a catchy phrase you chose, with absolutely no bearing on the issues at hand. They do not need anyone's "permission" to restore PUBLIC SAFETY to Erie Canal Communities, it's their JOB, and they took an Oath of Office to uphold it.

The Canal Corporation is only asking for the public's acceptance & understanding when it comes to Dam Safety in New York, and specifically along the Erie Canal Corridor

Now I hope your questions have been addressed, you are more than welcome to join the discussion on this Erie Canal Neighbors Forum, or check out more facts on out main ECNA website... https://ecna.us/
