How to Spot A Shady Character!
« on: September 04, 2021, 09:43:08 am »
They wear yellow T shirts and have red signs outside their house!

Yep!  These are the folks that think it's OK to leave a dangerous embankment covered in old trees and undergrowth, so that inspections for leaks and repairs can't be conducted. They refuse to accept the common sense that demands action is taken to protect your lives.
They refuse to accept the recommendations of numerous 'experts' like FEMA, NYDEC, ASDSO, USACE and others, who have told them many times lives could be lost.

And they are proud of it too!  Shame on them, but at least you know who they are!

It's quite incredible really.

I know how to spot a "shady" character as well.

It's the type of person who misrepresents a public safety program to repair unsafe earthen embankment dams that make up 1/3 of the length of the NYS Canal System.

This type of person would post "devastating" pictures of the Canal on Facebook, to try and pass those off as the Erie Canal of today.

And these types always applaud those who share in their misinformation campaign as you can see in the image below.

Now why did I say misrepresentation? Because it's true... here's what that Holley area Embankment Dam looks like today

And looking back towards the east side of the dam, you can get a sense for how LONG, STEEP & TALL this one is. It's about the same size as the Oxbow Lake Dam in Perinton.

And this Earthen Embankment Holley Dam is so impressive it's worth taking a walk along it sometime. Here's a video of our walk today.

You know what Forest Gump would say... Shady is, as Shady does.

A word to the wise, be careful who you listen to about Erie Canal Embankment Integrity & Safety of the Public around and near the Erie Canal
