It appears that once someone from Facebook's Stop the Canal Clear-cut Group  leaves the Rochester area, they are still allowed to spread mis-information and continue their denialist approach to Erie Canal issues back in New York State, especially within this Facebook Group's membership.

Anyone in New York or outside of the State can add whatever "opinion" they have about New York's Canal safety and makeup whatever they like to support leaving danger trees along the Erie Canal... all in the name of the "urban forest" and support of this Facebook group's folly.

Case in point: Ms. Janice Gouldthorpe

Janice G used to be one of the 3 Amigos of the Stop the Canal Clear-cut Group, when it first started.

She posted her denialism about Erie Canal safety, like the rest of her group, and she often would ridicule & mock the NYS Canal Corporation along with her pals Virginia Maier & Elizabeth Agte. It was the Lizzy, Ginny and Janice show for quite awhile on this Facebook group... and then Janice moved to North Carolina in 2021. How sad that she left her friends to fight for "shade" that she no longer enjoys on her canalside walks.

Even now Ms. Gouldthorpe continues to post false stories about why some US. Cities are planting trees and she even states that these cities are trying to "build forests" by planting trees... which is TOTALLY FALSE!

I suppose she looked at the headline and posted the story, without ever actually READING the article, must have been hoping she would get a big response from the THOUSANDS of members of the STCC in Rochester, ignite their "tree passion" and create another "STCC Moment" of grassroots activism.

She only received a single reply from the group... of course that reply was in total agreement with her "mis-information... as expected.

If you take the time to read the story it's REALLY about selecting the "right trees" to plant in cities, especially those who have experienced issues with climate change and trees not surviving the warmer or colder temperature swings that come with warming our planet. It is NOT a story about planting MORE trees, just selecting trees that will survive and help create a better natural canopy.

Must be that the other 999 members of the group actually READ the article and didn't just agree with Janice G, like Ms. Beth Turduno who was the single reply.

https://www.fastcompany.com/90828197/were-being-a-little-more-picky-how-cities-are-rethinking-their-trees-in-the-face-of-climate-change?

So it appears that mis-information AND deception are still the best tools that this group can muster up to try and make their point, even to this day.

And it doesn't really matter if you live in New York State or if you leave and move to North Carolina,  the group and ALL it's member prefer to use fiction over facts and create "their own truth" about trees, the Erie Canal and Public Safety in New York State, no matter where they live.

And sadly some NEW resident of North Carolina believes she should STILL have an opinion on the matter, from a thousand miles away, that flies in the face of the safety of New York residents and Erie Canal Neighbors.

I guess what they say about Ignorance is true... many people don't know what they "don't know".

Thank you Ms. Gouldthorpe for your continued ignorance of the truth, and continued denial of New York's Erie Canal Safety Issues

Without people like you Janice, and Elizabeth & Ginny, the Erie Canal Neighbors Association would have NOTHING interesting to post on our Forum and our readership would suffer for it.

What else could we write about that would have people scratching their heads and snickering about what a mess Facebook has become these days.

Yes, Janice Gouldthorpe!   My mother had an appropriate expression for folks like her - 'mouth almighty!'

Ms Gouldthorpe was another resident who lived on the canal, on the safe side, completely out of danger from dangerous dams. No tons of water threatening her existence!

It's so easy to spout off like Janice when your butt isn't on the line!
