I went to the New York Almanack website, and found this article. It wasnt posted yesterday, its from May 20, and its just a repeat of the NY canal corporate message about lowering the water, due to seeps on embankments.

https://www.newyorkalmanack.com/2022/05/western-erie-glens-falls-feeder-canal-waters-lower-this-year/

And there was no comment from this facebook group, but left one myself, linking back to the ECNA forum posts on embankment issues.

Lowering Erie Canal water is about public safety, period.

It serves to decrease the hydraulic pressure on these aging 100 year old canal Navigation Dams, and hopefully slow the seepage rate of those 200 leaks & seeps being monitored.

You can read about the truth regarding Erie Canal safety in NY here, and  even more dam maintenance work that requires lower water levels.
