Mr Castle's ten cents worth!
« on: July 20, 2021, 12:23:51 pm »

I have yet to see ONE Public Authority who will say that trees are acceptable on an EARTHEN EMBANKMENT DAM.

According to FEMA Dam Manuals, roots actually penetrate soil, which destabilizes the earth, but works to stabilize the tree.

The problem is that so many folks who are members of the STCC can't seem to distinguish the difference between levees, earthen slopes and hillsides, what is natural, and what man-made structures are.

Here's how you do that. If the embankment is holding back water that would otherwise flow downhill, then IT IS A DAM, with HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE.

So the ruling and BEST Practice that all the experts use is -NO TREES ON AN EARTHEN EMBANKMENT DAM!
