Brian Stratton spelled it out a few years ago. Here's what he said  -

I think this puts to rest many of the lies and nonsense, that has been bandied about by these few folks who simply will not accept the truth.

Brian Stratton to Jill Miller: "your letter contained several inaccuracies which I am obligated to address".

Interesting choice of words, obligated.

Because he's just a public servant trying to do his job, in spite of Ms Miller's refusal to understand or accept that truth. That job includes having to explain how public safety works on earthen dams, and what sort of State & Federal guidelines are in place, that limit the possible solutions.

Mr. Stratton states that the Canal Corporation tried to work with the three towns that sued NYS to stop canal maintenance, but none of them liked the truth either. The Town Leaders refused to discuss those State & Federal limitations.

And Mr. Stratton goes on to explain that Erie Canal Embankments are NOT levees, and due to how they are used, they fall under Earthen Embankment DAM requirements by the US Army Corps of Engineers. That US entity owns the waterway INSIDE the embankments, and they set the standards for Dam Safety in our country.

In addition Brian Stratton states that according to the USACE, earthen dams must be clear of invasive vegetation. It's NOT the destruction of all habitat, and is is NOT "clear-cutting" as Ms Miller has stated. It's called maintenance.

At the conclusion of the letter this Facebook group leader was told, directly by Mr. Stratton, that this is backlogged maintenance of elevated embankment dams, that are all HIGHEST RISK to the area and the Canal Corporation is trying to protect life & property.

A simple message that still continues to be called "fear-mongering" by Ms Miller and her STCC friends.
