She already knows the answer!
« on: May 22, 2021, 03:24:32 pm »

When the Canal Corporation was fixing a dangerous leak, almost outside Ms Agte's front door about 3 years ago, they were making one hell of a din for about four weeks. I could actually see and hear the work going on from my lounge window.
What surprised me at the time was that nowhere on the STCC Facebook page, were there any comments regarding this, which was a surprise, because there was a swamp with cat-tails and other water loving plants right where they hammered in 40 feet lengths for over 200 feet of the embankment.

There's no doubt the Canal Corporation was concerned, because this was almost the same spot where the dam failed in 1912, but this time it wouldn't have just flooded a few fields, the Town of Perinton had ignored the fact this was a dam, and had allowed schools, businesses and many score of houses to be built in the dam hazard zone.

So, why didn't Ms Agte ever mention this?  It's simple really, she'd been preaching that there was nothing wrong with the canal in Perinton, it was safe, and the NYPA were just 'fear-mongering'.  How could she explain away this mammoth repair?  Better if it was just simply ignored, like so many things the STCC have ignored when it suited their 'cause'.

You can see the extent of this repair here -https://eriecanalfacts.wordpress.com/2018/04/14/340/

As Ms Agte said, "Driving in piling. You will hear from a mile away....will it stop the leaking?"  Of course it will, she has the proof right under her nose! But admission of the NYPA's success would just be too much, wouldn't it!

Does anyone else see the irony here?

The group is denying that this issue is happening on an Earthen Canal Embankment. And they are showing pictures of an Embankment Dam, with Steel Plating that has been pounded into it. This is typical of EMERGENCY TYPE repairs that have been happening along the canal for the past 4 years... hard to ignore the simple fact that they ARE NOT pounding those steel plates into cement... right?

The Facebook group member who wrote this post, seems to think that a cement lining on the inboard slope of on a 18' tall canal embankment somehow make that earthen dam "different" than a canal embankment with a rip-rap rock on the inside slope.

It's still a LEAK, it still erodes the EMBANKMENT earth away, it really doesn't matter what the "inside" of the DAM is made of, especially if it's leaking and causing canal closures...does it?

The EARTHEN DAM HAS FAILED... while this group talks about "materials".

I have no words to explain why this continued "dam blindness" exists.. the Stop the Canal Clear-cut Groups' "logic" lies somewhere between absurd, and ridiculous. It's members are driven by LEADERSHIP who told them to never refer to these "hills" as Dams. It's beyond logic, reason and common sense.

Or perhaps it's just a group who doesn't realize that "their stupid side is showing".

The group's own posts show a total lack of understanding about the critical issues involved with repairing an aging canal system, but then again, their name shows they don't understand the first thing about what really constitutes "clear-cutting".

This is NOT it folks... believe us.

Unbelievable yet fascinating. Like watching a car wreck in slow-motion.

So, the group's leader's, like Ms. Gouldthorpe, tend to pop in an try to rile up the members from time to time. More false claims, more inaccurate statements that are supposed to be believed as "fact".

The truth is that the group has been claiming all along that "nothing was wrong" with the NYS Canal System but now overwhelming evidence like this breach washout in Macedon and a major emergency repair for "seepage" in Brockport have proven them wrong...once again.

And at the bottom of the post, in the comments, those two "newer" members have joined right in with their valued opinions. Just like their Leaders & Founder, it's always popular to say stupid things and have people agree with you, showing once again that social media tends to become an "amplifier for the inane".

Maybe these new members haven't seen all the post from STCC members raving how nice the REPLANTED Shrubs & Trees are along the Brockport & Holley Embankments... they were planted by the NYS Canal Corporation. You can read those in the ECNA post below. Most Erie Neighbors like the 1700 trees that the NYS Canal Corporation planted in April.

https://ecna.createaforum.com/the-stop-the-clearcut-argument/facebook's-stop-the-canal-clear-cut-group-where-ironic-moronic-collide!/

Obviously these two gals are just trying to make "points" with the group's Founder, who posted something about a boat getting stuck in the washout section of the canal in Macedon.

Seems the group is blind to so many things... earthen dams, tree planting, public safety...and a 100 year old man-made canal that they think "works great" the way it is. Really? Only need to look at the Canal Notices to see it's slowly crumbling away, and becoming a bigger  DANGER, each passing day.

There are now 18 different notices for MAJOR & MINOR issues with the Canal System...and it's only May. Everything from leaking embankments, to channel obstructions and even a major washout BREACH in Palmyra & Macedon. And this group is STILL saying that "trees" deserve the attention?

Wow, talk about the blind leading the blind... what happens when blind & "intellectually challenged" combine together?

On a lighter note, if you want to see more on the Washout Repair...go here and see the news story & plan. It was from the Finger Lakes Times and has a nice picture of a temporary solution...the Aqua Dam... it's plastic, it's portable, and it just might get water travel going again.

STCC really off topic now!

I guess this group is really floundering for things to say bad about the NYCC.

Their postings get less and less toxic every day.

Mr Corby (ex-mayor) is busy posting scenic photos of Pittsford, and here Ms Meuwissen is busy posting NYCC ads.

Can it be that they've begun to realize their mission of 'Stopping The Clear Cut' is fizzling out like a damp firework?

Can it be they're trying to save their group from extinction?

I guess it's something to do with their egos, and realizing that egg on the face is maybe coming their way this fall, so lets change the subject eh?

Oh! Dear!
