Once again people are missing the point about how this Facebook group is operating. They tell their members what to say, when to say it, and where.

Here's the group trying to "fix" the Public Input on a local Survey on how people like the Erie Canal. They want THEIR view to be the "public" view.

You can see the survey here : https://www.commongroundhealth.org/trail

And this group is calling their cause legitimate, while still failing to acknowledge they are playing with peoples lives & safety by keeping trees on earthen dams where they don't belong. And now telling others to do the same in online surveys. Of course they say it's in the name of the environment, somehow hoping to avoid all scrutiny.

What would you expect with STCC leaders providing foolish behavior, being followed by foolish people, who will one day regret being played "for the fool".

I posted this in answer to question 11 on the survey.

There is a group called Stop The Clear Cut who are petitioning you to keep the trees on unsafe Embankment Dams in Fairport & Pittsford.  See www.ecna.us for THE TRUTH and how bad their ideas are.

They ignore the fact that FEMA, USACE, NYDEC and ASDSO and Dam Engineers Rizzo Eng all say the trees should be removed  to make inspections and repairs.

They ignore that Crystal Springs & West Fairport areas are in a dam hazard zone behind a 50' tall embankment dam.

You can read more of their nonsense & ignorant banter here - https://ecna.createaforum.com/the-stop-the-clearcut-argument/

Please ignore their nonsense. They are a bunch of pseudo-environmentalist with no regard for Human Life or Public Safety.

Note that Virginia Borden Maier is an instigator of this group. None of these people have any qualifications regarding dam engineering, or safety.

ERIE CANAL EARTHEN EMBANKMENTS ARE UNSAFE, AND THE TREES NEED TO BE REMOVED!

Great idea Mike, letting this group know that there may have been a block of data that looks strange because it's all the same... as a statistician it's hard to sometime understand what happened on an online public survey. I went to the survey as well...and was a little more direct on my answers...and information I shared.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/EmpireStateTrail

There were questions that allowed Comments as Answers...here's a few answers I posted to the survey questions:

ANSWER: People that are protesting safety repairs along the canal.

ANSWER: People trying to prevent unsafe embankments from being properly repaired

Of course it was a comment so I also added a list of names:

Here's a list of names:
Janice Gouldthorpe
Virginia Borden Maier
Elizabeth Agte
Jaime Meuwissen
Karen Faris
Beth Tarduno
Melanie Kneip Davison
Peter Schroth
Micah Clark
Eileen Pavia
Kristina Martin
Monica Roland
Mary Kinsky
Diane Clark Newton
Kevin Gallagher

ANSWER: Providing a safer Erie Canal Trail & System Conditions:
1) Remove dangerous overhead tree limbs
2) Repair all unsafe earthen embankment dams
3) Properly inspect and repair current canal deficiencies

My answer here was VERY SPECIFIC and hopefully the people collecting the survey information will use it to "sort" data so there survey is normalized.

Your Erie Canal survey has been compromised by a group from Facebook called the Stop the Canal Clear-cut (STCC). The group's leadership has basically told it's members to answer your survey (this question in particular) with mis-information, inaccurate truth, and are campaigning to leave a public safety issue, with unsafe embankments along the canal, UNREPAIRED, in spite of all science stating Trees on Dams Kill People.

Here's their list of names:
Janice Gouldthorpe
Virginia Borden Maier
Elizabeth Agte
Jaime Meuwissen
Karen Faris
Beth Tarduno
Melanie Kneip Davison
Peter Schroth
Micah Clark
Eileen Pavia
Kristina Martin
Monica Roland
Mary Kinsky
Diane Clark Newton

The final survey question says it all:

I suggest anyone who uses the Erie Canal, especially it's Waterway & Trail, to go and take the survey... please put in your OWN answers and be honest. The survey is meant to drive an understanding about use and what is working and what is not for NYS Canal System users... and normally drives improvements or money to be allocated for safety & repairs.
