Truly a breath of fresh air for this Facebook group, someone with a brain. And better yet, they know how to think for themselves and are not afraid to speak "truth to management".

Unfortunately Poor Monica will be ostracized from the group in no time, and her post will "mysteriously disappear" at some point, just part of the continued censorship by the Group's Founder, and resident expert on "nothing in particular" - Ms. E. Agte.

It's happened in the past with members who speak up to correct inaccurate information provided by group leadership. They quickly are told that "behavior" isn't allowed, and their conflicting posts are removed, along with their member status.

This Facebook group isn't after the truth about public safety along the Erie or understanding the plight of earthen canal embankments.

This group's entire existence is only about pleasing what two people think, the Group's Founder and Moderator Maier.

What they say is TRUE, and you better accept that or leave the group.  It's evident in their "new" survey letter, that lets people "speak their own words".

Of course those words were written and composed by Virginia Maier & Elizabeth Agte, weren't they?

Of course here's the RULES for this Facebook Group, which appear to be different if you are the ADMIN and want to smear someone you don't like.

Of course, Agte is a profound authority on all things canal, especially trees and vegetation. Not!

It's nice to see dissent in the ranks, more proof that this 'organization' is falling apart.

She's got her 'sign' on her lawn too! A fat lot of good it will do her. What does her sign say to me?

HERE LIVES AN IDIOT!

Most people probably don't need to see a sign in Ms. Agte's yard to know she's not quite "all there" when it comes to earthen embankment dams, vegetation on them, or the trees causing the inherent danger to them.

And most people can actually "read and comprehend" the words about Mr. Mellen's resume & credentials, even if Ms. Agte cannot.

Dave Mellen has more experience than many in his field, and extensive background in Forestry, Environmental Science, Sustainable Construction & Civil Engineering

Take a look at the long list of Credentials & Education & Compare:

Just an FYI:

Elizabeth Agte is a "beekeeper", and lists zero education on LinkedIn or Facebook.

And Ms. Virginia Maier, an educator in Biology, with zero experience or education in Sustainable Construction, Engineering, or Forestry Management. Absolutely no background in anything even remotely related to Earthen Dam Safety. But if you listen to her rant, she herself, believes otherwise.

You remember Biology from School Days - Plant Names, Frog Dissections, Human Health.

So... now the question of the day:

If you are living BELOW unsafe earthen canal embankments, or want to see the Erie Canal live for another 100 years in a sustainable fashion, which of the THREE people would you want making decisions regarding your safety, the safety of your family & home, and the safety of the community at large around you?

The Beekeeper?

The Biologist?

Or maybe someone like Mr. Mellen, who's TRAINED to handle the intricacies of savings humans from unsafe, destructive earthen embankment dams?

Choose wisely if you value the Erie Canal, and your own safety.

Maier's St John Fisher students pass comments on her.

Not so hot eh?

Finally the answer is revealed, and why this Facebook Group will never accept the Truth. And it was FOUND in a reply made to a new member to the STCC group, who refused to accept the vitriol remarks made by "leadership"

Here's the reply to Poor Ms. Monica:

"Dave once told me...."

That's the reason why it's acceptable for the leadership of this group to mock the education and background of a professional like Mr. Mellen.

Even more interesting, but we won't go into it now,... Ms Agte made the original remarks about Mr. Mellen's capability but when CONFRONTED by a NEW members refusal to accept it, it was Ms. Maier who had to "correct" that person with HER reason why they had the right to ridicule Dave's intelligence.

Why couldn't Ms Agte answer? No one will know. But we did learn that it truly is all about what a Biologist thinks about Dam Safety, not the Beekeeper.

So what did Mr. Dave Mellen say that was so "terrible" and showed his ignorance?

Why, it was the truth about invasive vegetation that grows on earthen dams. Just read it in Virginia's statement; "Dave once told me that there was nothing I could show him that would convince (him) that trees should be on the Canal embankments.

Now this isn't just "Dave Mellen's truth" about Earthen Embankment, Mr. Mellen was EDUCATED in the field of Sustainable Construction & Forest Management and has admonished everyone in this group to read suggested Canal Corporation documents on the topic. He has a construction background as well and understands these "hills" are man-made and without proper care, inspection and maintenance, they will fail.

This SIMPLE truth about trees on dams comes from MANY sources;  FEMA publications, US Army Corps of Engineers manuals, and even right from our own NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation in their NYS Dam Guidance Rules. And that is where the problem is folks, Dave's "sin" was that he didn't "listen" to what Virginia thinks" about trees on dams.

Her words, read them again... "I think if he had studied what we know about the interactions between tree roots, soil, and slopes, he might be open to another solution than the one he proposes."

So Dave is supposed to forget about all the education and training that says No Trees on Dams, simply because Virginia Maier wants to believe the MYTH that  roots somehow stabilize soil, when it's common knowledge (accept to her I guess) that Tree Roots only Stabilize Trees. Their roots actually destabilize and loosen the soil as that happens, and is one of the contributors to them falling over and having those huge root balls showing.

https://ecna.createaforum.com/perinton-canal-embankment-discussion/trees-aren't-a-problem-on-the-trail!-oh!-really/msg1633/#msg1633

No, it's now become obvious what the issue is here, and it's sad. Ginny Maier "can't be wrong", just ask her, she thinks she's right...always.

Read her words again... "I think if he had studied what we know about the interactions between tree roots, soil, and slopes, he might be open to another solution than the one he proposes."

Isn't Virginia Maier accusing Mr. Mellen of not listening to HER opinions here as well?

Isn't she also accusing him of NOT HAVING an open mind to solutions other than his own?

Seems Ms. Maier is calling the kettle black here, and simply won't accept the truth about Earthen Dams now, even though she DID in the past. That was before she joined up with Ms. Agte and formed this group that went down the wrong path on safety.

Read the link below about what she said a few months BEFORE she started this group:

https://ecna.createaforum.com/the-stop-the-clearcut-argument/stop-the-canal-clear-cut-group-leaders-hiding-what-they-know-about-embankment-sa/msg1677/#msg1677

It's obvious what the problem is now, and there is NO SOLUTION accept for the Leaders of this Group to accept the hard truth they don't want to face... Trees on Dams are a Danger! So says FEMA & USACE, so says our own NYSDEC, and so says Mr. Dave Mellen.

But that will never be "good enough" for Ms Agte or Ms Maier... they have different ideas, with no supporting evidence, but it's a "gut feeling" they share.

And all their members have to fall in line or face the wrath of the Stop the Canal Clear-cut Leader

How many times do we have to ask, where is this EXPERTISE they talk about? Who are these 'experts' they talk about?

We've been following their banter for four years and the only ones they have are Prof Donald Gray, and David Rosgen. BOTH THESE MEN RECANTED THEIR ORIGINAL STATEMENTS!

Why because they were not told the trees were on an Earthen Embankment Dam.
The STCC has also FUDGED their argument by referring to LEVEES, which are not subject to hydrostatic pressure, unlike a dam.

The CC  report refers to LEVEES  at this section-
1.4.2.1.5 LEVEES WITH EXISTING VEGETATION  and it says - Standard guidance and best practices dictate that the levee criteria below are not appropriate for canal embankments.
