Maybe this idea of fighting against the Canal Corporation for fixing their unsafe embankments is just a Monroe County thing...

Because other Facebook Users along the Erie Canal do understand the value of clearing embankment dams along this 200 year old canal system. This is a post from the NYS Canal Corporation Facebook page about a new pedestrian walkway and bridge in the Town of Clifton Park, in Saratoga County. Here they see the clearing of the overgrown embankments as a possible blessing to revitalize their section of the original Erie Canal, and the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Path
