They got what they asked for.
« on: June 24, 2021, 02:21:51 pm »
A SEQR report etc. And now they have it  --

https://www.canals.ny.gov/Earthen_Embankment/DGEIS/2021-03-09_DRAFT_FINAL_Embankment_Maintenance_Guidebook.pdf

BUT, typical of a group in denial, they are still griping.

It's all a SHAM say Janice (BTW she doesn't even live on the canal now)

Bill Moehle STILL thinks the Town of Brighton has options, and is going to waste more of the Brighton taxpayer's money on attorney fees (who must be getting his wheelbarrow ready to take all that cash to the bank).

And Lizzy doesn't feel the document is in good faith. It doesn't agree with your position Lizzie, that the only problem, isn't it!

She even thinks that 'man made breaches' are different somehow to a 'regular' breach. It's a breach, whatever or whomever made it. It still counts Liz!

I've gone through this document, and it seems to have covered everything very thoroughly, even explaining 'Phreatic Lines' and the difference between 'Levees and Earthen Embankment dams'.

Much mention in this document of the 'rules' of dam construction techniques, even with pretty drawings and photos, but if your eyes are 'closed' I guess you can't see these common sense answers to the STCC arguments.

Methinks the chain saws are being sharpened!

I guess it's just more  "sour grapes" from a group who got what they asked for, and still doesn't like it one bit...

Because the message is the same...

The NYS Canal Corporation has stated again that unsafe Canal Embankments WILL be repaired and brought up to 21st Century standards, and that means "compatible vegetation" will be required, rooted vegetation will have to go.

Man-Made Breaches... that's something new from this group.

So some "unnamed individuals" purposely caused or tried to cause a canal breach?

Wait, someone really thinks that people somehow "intentionally"  made the water deteriorate the earthen embankment in Macedon and caused the washout at Locks 29/30?

And the steel piling that was driven in to the embankment  in Brockport along Erie St, that leak is now being called a breach by this Facebook group, and it was also an intentional leak caused by these mysterious "people".

Does anyone else see what's wrong with all this?

Who in their right mind would believe this hogwash, let alone follow a group leader spouting this dribble?

The word for today is Complicit... and those who know better, and don't correct these lies being spread in Perinton are just as guilty as the one who is spreading this mis-information all around the Eastside Community.

Bill Moehle, should know better, he's a local Government Official, or was one at some point, who respected the truth, and also what is supposed to be best for public safety in the Community, and for its residents. This flies in the face of that promise as a local government leader.

The man should be FIRED... pure and simple!

AND he must be off his rocker if he is putting Brighton's public safety in the hands of someone as confused as Elizabeth Agte.

OH! Doug!

That made me laugh - poor ol' Bill Moehle. I guess Agte silliness is actually contagious!

Stay away from Lizzy folks -she's infectious!   ;D :-* ???

My post was just verbalizing what most people must be thinking about this whole Stop The Clearing of Canal Embankment Facebook fiasco and what had to be the BEST example EVER of  that old saying about " the blind leading the blind".

They will continue to flaunt their ignorance of earthen dam safety, and will not spend any time reviewing the EEIP Guidebook release, it's easier just to say it's all bad, and they don't like it...

Like anything this group has said so far, has mattered one bit, in any of what the Canal Corporation is trying to get done with unsafe Canal Embankments.

Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, this Stop The Clear-cut movement, and it's Founders, still believe there's "nothing wrong" with unsafe canal Embankments running through our communities.

No wonder the NYS Canal Corporation won't listen to them or accept their "advice"...lol.

We answer the STCC Founders questions!

She asked on the Cut The Clear Cut Facebook page -

"Here is my question, considering that they are constantly complaining that they can’t see the embankment for all the underbrush and overgrowth, why do they ALWAYS throw the cut limbs and debris down the embankment instead of hauling it away?"

Here's the answer Liz!

Firstly, they are short staffed (everyone is short staffed -remember the pandemic).

Secondly, read the Canal Notices for June, there's broken locks, a major breach in Macedon, many more things more important to public safety than a few downed branches.

So, there they are, rushing around the countryside, with downed trees everywhere, trying hard to keep the trails open.

It's quicker to put the logs to one side, for processing later (in amongst all that brush and rubbish your lil' group is so fond of).

When the EEIP tree removal operation moves across the area later on, they'll actually have machinery, like bucket loaders and wood chippers to easily deal with the odd log here and there.

No point these men getting hernias and slipped discs humping tree branches around.

See Liz!  It just needs 'common sense' to figure these things out!

Well, Elizabeth Agte and the New York State Canal Corporation finally can agree on something, what gets done with all the brush and stumps that get removed.

I guess that can be called "progress", Mike.

She should be "all in" with the EEIP Guidebook then, because it states EXACTLY what she just was asking about with these blow down trees and their debris. We just posted it in a prior discussion, but I'll add the picture here again.

It's item number TWO in the list.

And of course let's NOT forget that ALL Canal Embankment Clearing work has been stopped where these trees blew over or broke. That's because Lizzie and her group convinced a few mis-guided Town Leaders to sue the NYSCC and stop work in Perinton, Pittsford & Brighton, pending the creation of this Guidebook and generic SEQR Enviromental Statement

So actually the person complaining MOST about why the tree debris wasn't picked up, is actually part of the reason why the Canal Corporation's hand are tied to do get those branches and debris removed.

How ironic, and yet predictable that this group would WHINE about something they caused by their OWN "dam blindness".

Someone in the Eastside communities might just consider the pick up and grinding of that debris, part of EEIP work that hadn't finished approvals yet. And then of course it's followed with an injunction  to Stop Work.

But now that the STCC Founder approves of how "down tree debris" gets picked up, the rest of the EEIP Guidebook acceptance should be a breeze.

Lol, until the STCC group starts chaining themselves to trees

Or worse yet, saying trees are more important than people in public meetings and on their Facebook page.

I suppose the last Embankment Breach was "man-made" too, that was in 2012, when 15 miles of the Erie Canal was "off-limits" to mules, boats and barges.

It was a sinkhole that almost took out the entire embankment in Albion area...

https://www.nhregister.com/news/article/Stretch-of-Erie-Canal-shut-down-after-partial-11547131.php

But according to the rantings of this Facebook Group canal breaches aren't possible, nothing wrong with trees on earthen dams, no danger here...move along.

Sadly, the idea that a 100 year old earthen dam is "OK", and should be left to it's own demise, which means it might possibly flood those living below it, without notice, is preposterous...but that is exactly what this Facebook Group is promoting.

They care little about the lives or livelihood of Erie Canal Neighbors... and it shows.
