Bring out the violins - she's ranting off again!
« on: January 24, 2022, 08:23:01 am »
This mornings post by Ms Agte is L O N G !  I was almost in tears (I jest) after reading this.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/374651252977621
If you can't see this, it probably means you've been blocked, so just use a private window in your browser.

She says -in the five years that NYPA has been in control of the Canal Corporation, they have over-reached, and illegally mismanaged. And have spent countless hours and dollars trying to misdirect and obfuscate their intention not to include stakeholders, communities, scientists, or environmental experts in the decision making process, because they have no intention of being caretakers, they only want be directors of their own narrow vision.

I take issue with this because the NYPA has included ALL these people, especially the scientists and environmental experts, it's all spelled out in the EEIP documentation Agte & the STCC asked for when they brought a law suit against the NYPA.

Trouble is, the STCC just doesn't like the answers they received. It's not how they thought all this would end.

Laughable really!

And of course, when she receives opposition, it's 'bullying' and 'thinly veiled threats'  and 'angry language'. I particularly liked the comment 'mistruths'!

From the Queen of mistruths herself no less.

Note also that the NY Governor has turned her back on Ms Agte's organisation, as have one or two other politicians. Others have 'gone quiet' perhaps showing their initial enthusiasm was a little too hasty?

And no comment by Ms Agte on our little advertising campaign for our petition at www.change.org/ErieCanalDam

We sent 120 letters and postcards to folks living in the dam hazard zone and a large advert in the Pennysaver that reached 20,000 people.

You would have thought that would have raised an eyebrow or two at the STCC?

Methinks this is the writing on the wall for Ms Agte. Perhaps she won't now get her bronze plaque at the end of the embankment, unlike Louise Slaughter who has one at Hart's Woods for 'saving' the woods?

Mike Caswell - And no comment by Ms Agte on our little advertising campaign for our petition at www.change.org/ErieCanalDam

Mike,  the NEW Pennysaver Ad, and your Flood Zone Resident Postcard Campaign did create a stir, maybe you didn't see it?

https://issuu.com/gvpublications/docs/monroe_1-21/1?e=6349545/89190405

Of course some "intelligent" folks in this group jumped right to the "conspiracy" side, trying to assign ownership to the ad and postcards.

The NYS Canal Corporation got the credit for the Pennysaver listing originally, before one of our forum "guests" (from Stop the Canal Clear-cut) corrected them.

It only made one post thread by STCC member Liesl the Weasel, who is an "expert" on the ECNA Forum is seems.

She also posted a few other images from the Forum that lambasted the Facebook Group Co-Founders and their misinformation campaign with Stop the Canal Clear-cut.

Can you imagine Ms Agte & Maier's surprise, when they see an active ECNA discussion on their "closed" Facebook Group?

But it really didn't matter in the end.

The STCC group's LEADER will just make up a new story about why Canal Embankments are being cleared, so that they can keep their minions in check...

Keep them believing all the STCC "truth" about how the Erie Canal is not broken, earthen dams are not unsafe, and it's all a ruse, this whole canal embankment safety issue.

It's all made up by the NYS Canal Corporation and New York Power Authority you know...

Just ask Virginia Maier & Elizabeth Agte...

Both experts in something I'm sure, but NOT NYS Canal Operation or NYS Dam Safety requirements.

This statement from this facebook group isnt accurate at all. The group founder chose to make the group public, which has one set of rules. Changing this group to a private one allows everything that they want because private groups have different rules.

Elizabeth Agte : Thanks to the wisdom of Facebook, there is actually very little that is private now in groups like ours.

We can’t exclude people from joining, because we don’t “accept” them anymore.

We can throw them out if they violate our code of conduct, but we can’t keep trolls from seeing who we are.

Facebook changed rules for public groups so that misinformation would not take over their site.

If people in this facebook group are upset or worried about their words and name being seen by that same public maybe they should really question what the group represents and either leave or ask the leader of the group to make it private.

Is this why the ECNA didnt start a group on facebook?

I'm not going to embarrass her!

So, I'll leave her name off.  One of the STCC members posted this recently.

"I am NOT SIGNING THIS PETITION Because it is a bunch of lies. It is not a Dam, It is an embankment.. The state is using scare tactics to get you to sign. Learn the truth. Go to our Facebook page "STOP THE CANAL CLEAR CUT".  We need trees more than ever these days. They are the lunges of the planet, cleaning the air we all breath. The Canal Corp. wants to take the easy way out. They have to maintain the canal and they want to do it the easiest way possible. Strip the land, increase erosion, Destroy the beauty, and make it easier for them to maintain."

Firstly, I think she did sign the petition, otherwise  this wouldn't have been posted.

And here we go again, "It's not a dam etc. etc"  I doubt this person has any dam engineering qualifications whatsoever, so here are the basics to determine if its a dam, or not.

Is it a raised embankment?  YES
Does it have RIP-RAP? (That's big jagged stones) YES
Is it impounding water? YES
Does it have SPILLWAYS? YES
Does it have a PHREATIC LINE?  YES
Do it's owners consider it to be a dam? YES
Does it have SEEPAGE & LEAKS?  YES

Then folks, it's a dam!

AND the State never put these ads up, the ECNA did!

She said "Will you learn the truth at the STCC?" Oh! My aching sides!  :-)

We need trees more than ever!
Of course, but not on a DANGEROUS, OLD, BADLY DESIGNED, EVEN WORSE MAINTAINED EARTHEN EMBANKMENT DAM.

Finally - Beauty? Ragged old Cottonwoods, dropping branches everywhere, and all sorts of illegal, controlled species of brush and weeds everywhere? You call that beauty?

It's always best to ADVERTISE the petition as well.

https://www.change.org/ErieCanalDam

Please go sign this petition, help save Erie Canal embankments from potential collapse, and help save communities below from what would result if that were to happen.

Our NYS canal communities have received advanced warning of a potential public safety issue on one of the States most prized assets, let's heed that warning and show that we support Erie Canal Integrity & Safety
